I've never quite cried over politics.
But I'll admit that I am crying in emotion right now - in relief. History has been made. American citizens, you are changing the face of your country, changing the face of the world.
I wanted it for America, my southern labor. I wanted it for the world.
For the past year, I've been consistently mistaken for a US citizen, in all the countries where I've been.
For the past year, I've had to tell people my opinion on what I see as foreign politics.
For the past year, I've met Africans, in Africa, rooting for Barak Obama.
All my life I've wanted equality.
Today, it happened. Martin Luther King would be proud. Nelson Mandela certainly is.

Well, it simply isn't that easy. Almost half of America DIDN'T want him. And the victory isn't for Africa (who doesn't pay taxes but gets plenty of ours). And it isn't for Mandella or MLK because hopefully we didn't elect him JUST because he's black, right?
But, in essence, that's exactly what happened.
After all, would everyone be as excited over a black President if he were just as bad as Bush (God forbid) or if he were as exemplary as Thomas Sowell?
The reason Obama won was the economy and the fact that we're sick of the war. Hillary would've made a far better President, but she was eliminated by the Democratic party early. Obama outspent her lavishly, and that made all the difference. Money can and does win elections. All the time.
As for McCain, he was too much like Bush. But even then, look how many people preferred him over Obama. Why? Because Obama's shady ties and rank socialism scared the crap out of any experienced Americans. The ones who voted Obama in were generally naive, young, and inexperienced.
Those who do not know history are bound to repeat it. The last President we had that was almost this liberal was Jimmy Carter, and he almost ruined the country and remains a classic example of a failure. That is, until George Bush came along and trumped him.
Don't get me wrong - no candidate was worthy to be President. I would have preferred Hillary, because she was the most experienced, but I didn't even want her. I wanted someone... Presidential, capable, and not afraid to think outside of the box.
Because, you see, Obama is not an original thinker. He never was. And if you look at his appointments, you know that he is not ready to truly take the country into any change. It will be more of the same.
I wish I were wrong, but I fear I am right.
